Summit Housing & Outreach Programs is committed to supporting volunteerism in Halton Region. We recognize that in order to achieve our goals as an organization, we need to involve volunteers in our work. We regard volunteers as a valuable resource and encourage them to get involved at all levels of the organization and within all appropriate activities. SHOP recognizes the instrumental role volunteers can be in strengthening and enriching our organization. Volunteering can also be an effective empowerment and recovery tool for individuals living with a mental illness. The Volunteer Program offers opportunities for community members to get involved at SHOP in a variety of ways. The program will have opportunities to volunteer in:
Drivers – transportation to appointments, SHOP groups, and community events are a major barrier to individuals living in Halton Region. Volunteers are needed to provide rides in their own vehicles or utilizing the two SHOP vans.
Volunteer Opportunities - volunteers who would like to facilitate one-time or ongoing group events are welcome to submit an application and a letter outlining their plan (i.e. a yoga class or art group, fundraising events, etc.). We strive to host groups and events that are “safe spaces” for clients that may not yet be ready to participate in community activities.
